Background: What I am about to express cannot be translated into a few words. Those who know me know I am a private person, so this piece is not my usual piece that I write. But, I felt compelled to write it. While there are many ways to write the same thing, I am writing this in a very raw form.
My grandma’s COVID-19 fight made me reflect on how much she has influenced my life and values. I told Christopher Kai in a recent podcast interview how much my grandma has influenced my life. So, I wanted to honor…
The economy of our parents and their parents is long gone and never coming back. Plus, the one and done careers are rare. Many people were taught that having a stable job meant being in the same job for what seems like forever (no matter the boss or pay). In essence, it seemed like the person died in the position and the position died with the person.
However, as the economy has shifted the workforce in so many different directions and uncertainty is certain, we must change our idea of what job stability looks like and what it feels like…
In 100 words, here’s why Netflix should possibly buy Pluto TV.
(1) Netflix is virtually everywhere. Period.
(2) Netflix has no live TV component, while Pluto TV does.
(3) Pluto TV has limited on-demand programming but Netflix doesn’t.
(4) Also, with Netflix’s licensing power, Pluto TV would open doors for additional revenue and viewership. Essentially, Netflix would be making its way into the live TV market, since live TV viewership is still at the top, followed by viewers who choose programming such as Netflix.
(5) Finally, both platforms are simply fun, i.e., an array of movies and programming for everyone.
Periodically, I have people to ask me about finding their passion and how I found my passion. Well, the answer is not always easy. We would love to think that finding our passion is easy as walking outside and smelling fresh air. But, it does not come that easy.
Let me take myself as an example. For myself, early in my life, I found that I had many passions. I realized that I was not one of those people who could be placed in a box or a singular category. I wanted to do different things and not be confined…
It’s been about a month since I received my DNA results. I took the test for fun (and because there was a special that made it extremely worthwhile to purchase). I did not expect the test to yield anything other than my obvious black roots, since I am African American. This is what I believed and understood from my family history. But, after receiving the DNA results, I was surprised for many reasons including that the results matched me with 400+ DNA connections (with various degrees of relatedness). I am still trying to make sense of this.
I thought it…
Having been invited on panels and organized and facilitated panels as well as speaking at various UN events and even lectured at colleges and universities, my TED experience had to be one of my most enlightening experiences to date. I truly appreciate being invited to speak at Portland Community College-Rock Creek TEDx event. The event was the college’s first TEDx event and I believe it made history as being one of the few community colleges to host a TEDx. I am glad to be a part of that history and in helping the college in any way possible to make…
I came into the world of writing code, simply by accident. I tripped on the ground, fell into coding, and got a black eye. But, seriously, coding has been an interesting journey (to say the least). As I moved through this experimental experience, I learned so much more than coding. So, I wanted to write this article in a manner that can relate to a broader audience and provide some needed context and information to those who are seeking to learn code or who may be curious about coding. As an everyday person and an outsider to the tech industry…
